Colorado State pushed ahead of their Mountain West Conference rivals on the recruiting trail on Sunday when 2017 Louisiana dual-threat quarterback Justice McCoy committed to the Rams.
McCoy helped lead St. Augustine High School to a 7-5 record in 2016 playing one of the harder schedules in 5A. Stats posted through 11 games has McCoy with 1,543 passing yards with 11 touchdowns while running for 634 yards with 15 more scores. The push forward for the Purple Knights was big after a 2-9 season in 2015. McCoy has been a consistent play-maker for his squad passing for 2,170 yards with 17 touchdowns as a junior rushing for 311 yards with four more scores posted.
Colorado State flipped McCoy away from Florida Atlantic. The 6-1, 180 pound, talent committed to the Owls on July 18. Other teams to offer McCoy included West Virginia, Tulane, SMU, Georgia State, Memphis, and Texas-San Antonio. McCoy posted his CSU commitment on Twitter:
The Rams now have 21 verbal commitments to their 2017 class with three players having already signed their letter of intent; tight end Griffin Hammer (Saint Charles, IL), offensive tackle Benjamin Knox (Independence, KS), and offensive tackle Tyler Bjorklund (Valencia, CA). 247Sports rates CSU’s class No. 59 in the country, No. 1 overall in the MWC.
