The ridiculously talented have a knack for making their craft look easy. When Peyton Houston took the field for Louisiana’s Calvary Academy last fall, no matter what was thrown at Houston, the eighth grader was able to overcome looking like a salty veteran of the game. The smooth stroke, strong arm, and quick wheels have put the 2027 prospect on recruiting boards early with six offers handed over.
Grambling, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Purdue, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech already see the future in Houston’s game extending scholarship opportunities. LSU and USC are among the teams showing interest. The Trojans got Houston on campus in early March.
“It went well,” Houston said. “We watched their practice. I got there at 2:00 and left at 6:00. We went to the hotel and then came back touring the campus and went to the stadium.”
Houston continued, “It was nice. The vibe was there. USC has a great environment there.”
The next visit for Houston will take him into Big Ten country.
“I think we are going to Purdue soon, but I don’t know the date,” Houston shared. “We are going for spring practice. It is a drive, but I will go anywhere to play the sport I love to play.”
Four opportunities to throw for college coaches at camps are being lined up for Houston.
“TCU, I think I am going to Texas, Ole Miss, and probably to LSU again,” Houston stated.
In preparation for the camps and 2023 season, Houston spoke about his offseason workouts.
“I’m working on getting bigger, stronger, and faster,” Houston said. “The high school game is faster; I want to look like them and be bigger than some of them.”
Asked about the strengths of his game, Houston replied, “My ability to make plays with my feet, especially if the play goes dead. I can get outside the pocket and create.”
Houston has been learning more about the game watching two college quarterbacks.
“Bryce Young (Alabama) and CJ Stroud (Ohio State); I love their game,” Houston shared. “I love how they play and their poise.”
Running a spread offense for the Cavaliers, Houston talked about how his skills fit that offense.
“It is a great fit,” Houston said. “I am getting the ball to receivers in space. I am good with my pre-snap reads – it is a great fit.”
During the 2022 season, Houston was credited with 1,175 passing yards hitting 53-of-71 attempts with 20 touchdowns. On the ground, he covered 298 yards making three trips into the end zone.
