Jake Dalmado has dreamed about playing college football since he started playing running back at the age of six. In fact, the Archbishop Hannan standout wears 24 in honor of his grandfather who wore 24 while starting at Southeastern Louisiana University in 1960. During his junior campaign, Dalmado rushed for 1,359 yards on 181 carries and scored 15 touchdowns against Louisiana defenses. After the 2019 season, Dalmado received individual honors including All-State.

This 5’10”, 195-pound, rusher has tremendous quickness and agility to be able to cut on a dime and outrun defenders. Dalmado also has good field vision and footwork. This class of 2021 recruit currently holds three college offers and is also drawing interest from a number of colleges.

Dalmado is not only a star on the football field but he has a 2.96 GPA and scored a 25 on his ACT.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Jake to talk about his junior season at Archbishop Hannan and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

What are your thoughts on the 2019 season?

“We started out the 2019 0-4 and ended up only one game short of the division title, going 3-1 in our division. We (3A) played a hard schedule against powerhouse 4 and 5A programs. This schedule allowed for us to increase our level of competition and put us in a better position in the playoffs. I believe this experience will help us in the 2020 season.”

How would you grade your individual performance last year and why?

“I think, overall, I had a good season. Halfway through the season I was transitioned from a traditional running back to playing Wildcat QB. This allowed me to maximize control over the ball and become a better leader for my team.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I think my biggest strength is my initial speed off the ball. I can cut quickly to gain maximum yards and I have good down field vision. I can also be utilized as a slot receiver and return specialist.”

What was your most memorable moment from last season?

“Going into Game 5, 0-4 on the road to play St. Michael. I helped my team win by scoring the winning touchdown; this was definitely memorable and a turning point for our season. We really needed that win!”

Did you win any individual honors last year?

“I was awarded All-State Louisiana Sports Writers Association and Louisiana Football Coaches Association honorable mention, All-Parish, District MVP, First Team All-District and Clarion Herold Elite Team.”

What is your practice and workout schedule during the offseason?

“During the off season I lift four times a week and I do speed and conditioning training three times a week.”

What are you working on most to improve your game?

“I have been working on speed while also gaining muscle. I started the 2019 season at 180 pounds, and now I am up to 195 pounds.”

Where have you seen the most improvement in your workouts since the start of your junior season?

“Hitting the holes a lot faster and quicker. Also, since increasing my muscle mass I am a more powerful running back.”

What would you say was the biggest challenge that you overcame last year?

“I played Weeks 1-4 with a fractured toe. This made it painful and more difficult to run the first half of the season. I was still able to complete the season with over 1,300 rushing yards.”

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

“4.58.”

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

“Saquan Barkley, because of his ability to change direction, catch the ball, and block. He is a complete back.”

How many college offers do you have and from what schools?

“Currently I have three offers from Ave Maria, Carthage College and Hendrix College.”

What other schools are showing you interest at this time?

“I am in communications with several schools from all three divisions in the NCAA and both divisions in the NAIA. I’m looking for a school where I would be a good fit both on and off the field.”

What do you like most about playing at your high school?

“What I like most about playing for Archbishop Hannan is the culture we have as a team. Our motto is “I am third” which supports our team pillars: humility, perseverance, courage, meekness and family. Being part of a close team where everyone shares this same mindset results in a positive atmosphere and winning program.”

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

“My favorite subject is Math. Math has definite answers and when following the right steps, the answers are guaranteed.”

What is your GPA?

“2.96.”

What is your ACT Score?

“25.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My dad, because he always pushes me to be my very best and wants me to be the best player I can possibly be.”

What are some goals that you have set for your senior season?

“I would like to finish the season with at least 20 touchdowns and over 1,500 yards rushing. I would also love for my team to win a second round playoff game, which we have not been able to do so far.”

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

“My favorite quote is from one of my offensive coaches who always tells me “one cut and to the end zone.” My favorite Bible verse is, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3).”

Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.

“Thank you, sir.”
