In 2019, junior quarterback Alex Garcia helped lead Airline High School, located Bossier City, to one of the best seasons in school history as the Vikings finished 10-3 and reached the state quarterfinals. During his successful junior campaign, Garcia threw for 2,700 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 61 percent of his passes. The dual-threat playmaker also chipped in with two rushing touchdowns as he has the ability to make plays in the running ground as he uses his athleticism and strength to break through tackles.

This class of 2021 prospect is currently receiving interest from Louisiana Tech and it’s only a matter before his name throughout the region and not just the state. Garcia not only works hard on the football team but also stars on the track, and has a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Alex to discuss his breakout junior season and his recruiting process.

Interview

Alex, what are your thoughts on the 2019 season?

“Overall, I had a good year but I believe there are still a lot of areas where I can improve to better myself mentally and physically.”

What was your most memorable moment in your junior season?

“First game of the season, we were down by 14 after a bad first half where I started 1 for 8 for 15 yards. But I came back and threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns in the second half to help lead my team to victory.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“My ability to make something out of nothing and my fearless attitude.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“All-Parish MVP, All-District MVP, All-City Offensive Player of the Year, second-team All-State.”

Would you consider yourself a dual-threat or pro-style quarterback?

“I have the ability to be either but more dual threat due to my scrambling ability and speed. I can run when needed.”

Are you receiving interest from any schools right now?

“Louisiana Tech, and I’ve gotten mail from a few others.”

What are you working on the most this offseason?

“Definitely the mental aspect of the game, reading coverages and noticing tendencies. I am just getting better and learning as I’m still a student of the game.

What do you like most about playing quarterback?

“Knowing the game is in my hands and being in control when the game is on the line. I want the ball playing quarterback, I have that ability.”

Is there an NFL player you model your game after?

“Russel Wilson (Seahawks). I’m not the biggest guy but I do with what God gave me. I not only like his play on the field but off the field. I like the way he carries himself and acts. He’s a magician on the field.”

Do you play any other sports in high school?

“Track and field. I run the 4×1, 4×2, 200, and throw the javelin.”

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

“History. I enjoy learning about what was happening on earth before me and about heroes of the past.”

What is your GPA?

“3.7.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“Head Coach Bo Meeks, for sure. Through it all, the good and bad, he has never given up on me, even when I was at my worst. The man believed in me and saw something in me that I didn’t and I’m grateful for that.”

What do you like most about playing at Airline?

“The community. The support is unreal. The fans or ride or die with us. Wherever we travel they are there and they’re loud.”

Do you have a favorite Bible verse?

“John 14:8 – If God is all you have, you have all you need.”

Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.

“Thank you, sir.”
