One of the next up and coming stars in the New Orleans area is junior quarterback Garrett Mmahat at Brother Martin. During the first two games of the 2020 season, the 6’1”, 175-pound, playmaker has thrown for 490 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for an additional 149 yards.
Mmahat is already a great leader on the playing field, has the ability to escape pressure in the pocket to keep plays alive, and can take off running to gain yards on the ground when needed. He also has great arm strength to make all kinds of throws and uses his athleticism to beat defenses.
Interest from college coaching staffs is already building for Mmahat and it’s only a matter of time before his recruiting process explodes. A deeper look into the rising talent, college coaches will like seeing he holds a 4.3 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with the Crusaders quarterback to talk about his junior season at Brother Martin and get an update on his recruiting process.

My strengths on the football field, I believe, is my ability to stay calm and keeping my teammates calm as I try to be the best leader for the team.

I would describe myself as a dual-threat as I have the ability to escape the pocket, make throws on the run, and I can make plays with my feet.
What was your practice and workout schedule during the offseason?
During the offseason, I would go to practice and weights around 7:30 and then come home around 11:00. Then I would go over to the place I train at around 12:30 and workout.

There isn’t one particular player that I try and model my game after but I do look and take note of different quarterbacks and their skills that I can add to my game.
Are you receiving interest from any schools?
Yes, from South Alabama.
What is your routine during a game week?
My routine during game week is to prepare at practice, watch film during the week, study the opposing defense, and our game plan.

My pregame rituals are the same every week, during warmups and before the game routine, and I talk to my teammates before the games.
Do you play any other sports in high school?
I played basketball the first two years in high school but I stopped to focus on football. I have seen great results.
Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?
My previous coaches, current coaches, and former players I played with, and my family has had the biggest impact on my football career.

My favorite quote is from Drew Brees, “Anyone can see the adversity in a difficult situation, but it takes a stronger person to see the opportunity.”
