The Haughton Buccaneers had a wonderful season in 2020 as they finished 8-2 but fell in the second round of the state playoffs (38-6) to Alexandria. In 2021, junior dual-threat quarterback Colin Rains is back and ready to take this program to the next level.
During his sophomore campaign, Rains threw for 1,458 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 381 yards and eight more scores on the ground.
The 6’2”, 190-pound, quarterback plays with tremendous toughness and field leadership while possessing a strong arm and athleticism. This Class of 2023 recruit is already drawing interest so it’s only a matter of time before he reels in his first collegiate offer.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Colin to talk about his sophomore season and his preparations for his junior season in 2021.
Interview
Colin, what are your strengths on the football field?
Leadership, mental toughness with the ability to have a short memory when needed.
Did you receive any individual honors in 2020?
2020 honorable mention for All-District 1-5A, Bossier Press-Tribune 2020 All-Parish football team, and 2020 Shreveport Times Second Team All-City.
What would you say was your best game last year and why?
I think my best game last year was against Captain Shreve. As a team, we beat a very good district opponent and it was a very good win for us.
Do you consider yourself a dual-threat or pro-style quarterback?
I see myself as a dual-threat quarterback because I can run behind my shoulder pads when I need to.
Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
I try to model my game after Dak Prescott because he is a team player and will do whatever it takes to win and he is strong on his faith.
Did you attend any camps this summer?
No, sir. I did not attend any camps this summer. I also play baseball, and we do some summer travel baseball, but I’m going to try to go to some in the future.
What did you work on the most this offseason?
I worked the most on my strength, trying to get stronger and on my conditioning getting ready for the season.
What game on the 2021 schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
How I mentally prepare is getting ready for our Week 1 opponent and try to not look too far down the road that way I can prepare each week for the opponent that we’re going to be playing.
What are your goals for your junior season?
My goal is for our team to get better every week and make a deep run in the playoffs and would love to win it all.
Do you play any other sports at Haughton High School?
I play infield and outfield for the varsity baseball team.
Are you receiving any interest from colleges?
I’ve got some interest last year as a sophomore.
Who is your role model and why?
I have a couple of role models, the first one is my mom, because she’s not afraid to put in the hours of work and she’s not scared of anything. The second one is my preacher Gevan Spinney, because he shows me how a man should live his life according to the Bible. He doesn’t just talk the talk he also walks it.
What is your GPA?
My GPA is a 3.9.
Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
Thank you for your time today and good luck this season.
Thank you, sir.
