The Knights of Lafayette Christian Academy capped off their 10-1 season by winning the Division III state championship. The key to their championship run was the play of the lockdown defense which only gave up 6.8 points a game. One of the stars of this unit is playmaker Masey Lewis who finished the season with over 50 tackles and five sacks.
This 6’4”, 240-pound, tackle machine has the unique ability to pass rush or drop into coverage in the Knights 3-4 scheme. Lewis has good size, speed, and strength while also possesses good athleticism and footwork.
This Class of 2022 prospect already has three college offers including Kansas and is also drawing interest from other colleges. Lewis is not only a force on the gridiron but also works hard in the classroom where he has a 3.2 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Masey to talk about his historic junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.
Interview
Masey, what are your thoughts on the 2020 season?
My thoughts on the season are that it was the toughest season I’ve ever played because of COVID and not being able to workout and prepare like normal.
How would you grade your individual performance during your junior season?
I’d give myself an A-minus, because I started off slow and I wasn’t playing my best but later in the season I got my mind right and played to the best of my ability.
Did you win any individual honors?
I won MVP in the championship game.
What are your strengths on the football field?
I never quit even when I’m tired. I always do my part and communicate with my teammates.
What would you say was your best game and why?
The championship game against St. Charles Catholic, because I was everywhere and played it like it was my last game. I was doing everything my coaches asked me to do.
What kind of defensive scheme does Lafayette Christian run?
We run a 3-4.
How do your skills fit this scheme?
I can rush or cover.
Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
I would have to say Von Miller.
What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?
4.7.
What are your maxes in the weight room?
I only know my max bench which is 245.
How would you describe what kind of player you are?
I’m a hard worker and always communicate with my teammates. I never pout or get mad when I’m getting fussed at or mess up, I just always do my best to get better.
How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?
I’m a chill guy and laid back at times but I’m always behind my teammates back if anything goes wrong.
What do you like most about playing at Lafayette Christian?
The chemistry we have on the team and we’re just a big family.
Do you play any other sports in high school?
I also play basketball.
What are your goals for the offseason?
I want to get faster, stronger, and just better in general.
Do you have any college offers and from what schools?
Kansas, South Alabama, and Tulane.
Are there any schools showing interest that haven’t offered?
Yes, I have several, but I want to keep those private at this time.
What is your GPA?
3.2.
Thank you for your time.
Thank you, sir.
