Gabriel Larry is going to be the next highly touted recruit to come out of Parkway High School in Bossier City. The three-sport athlete currently excels on the football team as the starting quarterback then also stars as an outfielder on the baseball team and at small forward on the basketball squad.
In 2019, Larry led the Panthers to a 4-6 record on the gridiron while throwing for 1,074 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushing for 211 yards and four more scores. This 6’2”, 195-pound, play-maker has the ability to make throws all over the field ranging from screen passes to deep balls downfield. Larry also possesses great athleticism and footwork to escape the pocket and make plays with his legs when necessary.
The Class of 2021 prospect currently has one college offer and is also drawing interest from Arkansas State. Larry is not only a three-sport star at Parkway but also excels in the classroom where he currently holds a 3.6 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Gabriel to talk about his career at Parkway and get an update on his recruiting process.
Interview
First off, how would you grade your individual performance last season and why?
“I’d give myself a B, because I did a lot of good things but I do need to improve in some areas to make my game better.”
What was your most memorable moment in 2019?
“In the game against North Desoto, it was a defensive game most of the first half but we scored right before halftime then I ended up throwing three touchdowns in the second half and we won 35-14.”
What are your strengths on the football field?
“I can make all kinds of throws from five-yard passes to 70-yard passes, and I can make plays with my legs.”
Did you receive any individual honors?
“No, but that is one of the reasons I have a chip on my shoulder while preparing for next season.”
Would you consider yourself a dual-threat or pro-style quarterback?
“Dual-threat but I’m definitely a pass first quarterback.”
What is your practice and workout routine during the offseason?
“I’m weightlifting and working on my footwork and accuracy. I’m also going on runs.”
What are you working on the most?
“My accuracy and footwork while passing.”
Do you have any college offers?
“One from Blinn College.”
What other schools are showing you interest at this time?
“Arkansas State.”
Have you been to any camps?
“Houston, SMU, and an East Texas Baptist University’s Mega Camp.”
Which camp was your favorite?
“The East Texas Baptist University Mega Camp, because there were a lot of scouts and a lot of exposure there.”
Have you taken any college visits?
“Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech, I really enjoyed both visits.”
What is your GPA?
“3.6.”
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
“Math, because it’s challenging. You have to put forth an effort to pass it and solve the problems.”
What do you like most about playing at Parkway?
“The community and the way they come out every Friday night to support us. I grew up going to every game and always dreamed about putting on the uniform and playing at Preston Crownover Stadium.”
Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verses?
“I have two, Matthew 19:26 and Philippians 4:13.”
Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.
