Ruston High School had an up and down season in 2019 as the Bearcats finished 7-6, however, they reached the 5A state quarterfinals but unfortunately suffered a heartbreaking loss to Zachary (35-27). One specific player who also faced adversity but came out on top was running back Deontre Griffin.
During the 2019 season, Griffin rushed for 726 yards and eight touchdowns but struggled down the stretch. Then the junior rusher was able rise above the struggles and come up with some huge plays in the postseason for Ruston including rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on the road to upset East Ascension in the second round and help clinch that quarterfinal appearance for his team. After the season, Griffin won individual honors for his work on the field.
This 6’0”, 180-pound, tailback possesses speed and athleticism breaking through tackles and escaping defenders. Griffin also has good footwork and shows great leadership while interacting with his teammates. The Class of 2021 recruit currently holds one college offer from Louisiana College and with another solid season in 2020 it’s only a matter of time before his recruiting process explodes.
Not only does Griffin star on the football and the basketball team but also in the classroom where he currently holds 3.6 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Deontre to talk about his junior season at Ruston High School and get an update on his recruiting process.
