Louisiana: Green Oaks High School 2015 Football Season Preview
Written by Charlie Beuttel
Head Coach: Curtis Evans
Mascot: Giants
2014: 3-7
District: 1-3A
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Overview
Green Oaks had another disappointing season in 2014 winning just three games for the second consecutive season. The Giants could have had a playoff caliber kind of season if they could have converted four losses that ended by a margin of 10 points or less.
Expectations are higher around this team going into 2015. Green Oaks has a lot of returning experience at the skill positions but are relatively inexperienced everywhere else. This young team faces a gauntlet of a schedule as every non-district team they face made the playoffs last year. However the Giants are ready to step up to the table and face these teams.
Offense
The Giants scored 17.5 points a game in 2014 however this offense will be more explosive in 2015. Senior Jaylon Carey is back to lead Green Oaks. The 6’1″, 210 pound, dual-threat quarterback passed for 1,049 yards and 13 touchdowns and ran for another 887 yards and four more touchdowns.
Another offensive star is 6’5″, 245 pound, tight end Toriaun Sergent. Sergent also spent time at defensive end and runs 4.6 in the 40 yard dash. The offensive line is led by 5’10”, 260 pound, senior Christian Hall. Hall was selected second-team All-District in his junior season. Another offensive leader is senior wide receiver Deaontea Crawford who was also selected second-team All-District.
Defense
Green Oaks only returns four starters in a defense that gave up 25.5 points a game last year. One of the returning stars is defensive back Tristain Robinson who led the team with five interceptions. The 5’8″, senior was also selected first-team All-District and second-team All-City.
The Crawford brothers, Deontea and Damien, will also be key contributors in the secondary. James Holden (6’2”, 200) will help the team at linebacker. Depth will not be an issue for this defense.
It will be fun to watch which young players will step in and shine for the Giants this season.
