It was an exciting weekend of first round action in the Louisiana 4A playoffs with 16 teams reaching the second round. Last Friday there were some exciting games including a couple upsets as No. 25 Loranger defeated No. 8 Lakeshore, 43-30, and No. 18 Livonia defeated No. 15 LaGrange, 28-14. Neville and Bastrop both shutout their opponents last week and will have extra momentum going into their second round games this Friday.
There were also some great individual performances showcased in the first round including Minden quarterback Antonio Rivette who threw for 349 yards, rushed for 136 yards, and had five total touchdowns. Cecilia star running back Raymond Calais had 269 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his team’s 49-20 win over Northwood. Another great performance came from Warren Easton’s defense as the Eagles had five interceptions in their 56-14 win over Belle Chasse.
Other players to watch this Friday include:
Neville defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence
Edna Karr defensive end Andre Anthony (LSU)
Livonia defensive end Willie Baker (Louisiana Tech)
McDonogh 35 athlete Clifford Chattman (LSU) and defensive end Sci Martin
Bastrop wide receiver Isaiah Graham (TCU) and linebacker Travez Moore
Crowley wide receiver Jacq’co Price (Tulane)
Minden athlete L’Jarius Sneed
North DeSoto running back Delmonte Hall
Benton quarterback Garrett Hable
Belle Chasse linebacker Kazmi Antoine (Tulane)
The two teams, Neville and Warren Easton, who battled for the 4A title last year are still alive and they are on a collision course to face each other again in 2015 but this time in the semifinals. Two exciting games this Friday should be Minden vs Franklinton and McDonogh 35 vs Benton.
It will be exciting to see who the eight teams are that will clinch a ticket in the quarterfinals.
