The quarterfinals are here as eight teams clinched their ticket on Friday night to advance. In the second round, there were several upsets and exciting games including the No. 1 seed West Monroe Rebels falling to No. 17 Ponchatoula 28-21. The other two upsets were when No. 12 Mandeville took down No. 5 Scotlandville, 42-41, and No. 4 Byrd lost to No. 13 Landry-Walker, 47-41.
There were several great performances in the second round including Landry-Walker quarterback Keytaon Thompson who threw for 153 yards, ran for 117 yards, and accounted for six total touchdowns. Another big performance in Parkway’s 55-28 victory over two-time defending champion Acadiana was sophomore wide receiver Terrace Marshall who caught five passes for 172 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win. Destrehan junior quarterback Kohen Granier led his team to a victory over Barbe as he completed 12-of-16 passes for 207 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns.
Along with these three great athletes, there are other players to watch this weekend in the four quarterfinal match-ups including Ponchatoula defensive lineman Donovan Campbell and Jahaziel Lee (Louisiana-Lafayette) and offensive line Donavaughn Campbell (LSU), John Ehret linebackers Michael Divinity (LSU) and Dejon Harris (Arkansas) and defensive back Jarrius Wallace (Central Florida), Mandeville linebacker Johnathan Picone (Texas Tech) and wide receiver Parker Orgeron, Landry-Walker defensive back Michael Lee and offensive lineman Cory Harden, Destrehan wide receiver John Williams, and defensive lineman Glen Logan (LSU) and Gerald Wilbon (Texas), Parkway athlete CJ Morgan (Mississippi State) and defensive back Lloyd Cole, Zachary quarterback Lindsey Scott jr (Syracuse), and offensive lineman Kellton Hollins (TCU), Hahnville offensive lineman Drew Melancon (Louisiana Tech) and defensive back Chris Marshall.
Several storylines to follow this Friday include whether or not Ponchatoula can continue their “Cinderella” run? Will there be any upsets in the quarterfinals? Who will win the big game in New Orleans as Destrehan hosts Parkway? Which double-digit seeded team will be in the semifinals? These questions will be answered Friday night as four teams will punch their ticket to the next round.
