Louisiana High School Football 5A Second Round Preview

It was a wild first weekend of the playoffs as 16 team punched their ticket to the second round and sixteen teams were defeated and sent home.
There were several amazing individual performances put up in the first week of playoff action including Hahnville running Anthony Williams (Kansas commit) who finished with 303 rushing yards and five touchdowns against Denham Springs. John Ehret running back Terrell Brown ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns against Haughton. West Monroe put up 377 rushing yards as a team against Central-Baton Rouge in their opening round win as Slade Bolden (Alabama commit) led the Rebels with 276 total yards.
Some other notable players to watch in this 5A bracket include East Ascension offensive lineman Cameron Wire (LSU commit), Landry-Walker cornerback Corione Harris (Kansas commit), Covington running back Devin Brumfield (Texas Tech commit) and Destrehan safety Macon Clark (Tulane commit).
Eight teams will survive and advance to the quarterfinals this weekend. It will be exciting to see who will step up to the occasion and conquer their opponent.
Louisiana 5A Second Round Matchups
No. 1 West Monroe Rebels (11-0) at No. 17 Dutchtown Griffins (7-4)
In round one, West Monroe routed Central-Baton Rouge, 51-15, while Dutchtown edged out Slidell, 26-24.
No. 9 Barbe Buccaneers (10-1) at No. 8 Destrehan Wildcats (10-1)
Last Friday, Barbe destroyed Parkway 52-6, while Destrehan defeated Alexandria, 33-14.
No. 12 Airline Vikings (8-3) at No. 5 St. Amant Gators (11-1)
Last week, St. Amant squeaked past Northshore, 41-38, while Airline throttled Chalmette, 35-7.
No. 13 John Ehret (8-3) at No. 4 Zachary Broncos (10-1)
In round one, Zachary shutout Mandeville, 38-0, while John Ehret dominated Haughton, 46-13.
No. 14 Landry-Walker (8-3) at No. 3 Acadiana Rams (10-1)
Last Friday, Landry-Walker doubled up Walker, 14-7, while Acadiana defeated Comeaux, 52-20.
No. 6 East Ascension Spartans (9-2) at No. 22 Live Oak Eagles (6-5)
Last week, East Ascension routed East Jefferson, 35-14, while Live Oak got past Sulphur, 23-10.
No. 10 Hahnville Tigers (9-2) at Ruston Bearcats (8-2)
In round one, Hahnville doubled up Denham Springs, 42-21, while Ruston edged out East St. John, 35-25.
No. 15 Ouachita Parish Lions (7-4) at No. 2 Covington Lions (11-0)
Last Friday, Ouachita Parish destroyed Terrebonne, 35-17, while Covington easily beat Thibodaux, 35-21.
