Week 6 Highlighted Matchups
Evangel Christian Academy Eagles (3-1) at Airline Vikings (3-2)
Last week, Evangel destroyed Haughton 31-3 while Airline lost a heartbreaker to Parkway 42-35. The Eagle’s defense is giving up on average nine points a game and has let only one opponent score over 10 points against them. In their game against Haughton, Evangel returned two interceptions for touchdowns. Players to watch on the Eagle’s defense include LSU commits Micah Baskerville and Ardarius Washington and then Elijah Chatman. Evangel’s offense is led by junior running back Tamauge Sloan and sophomore quarterback Blake Shapen.
Airline’s experienced offense has been fueling them all year as the Vikings average 32 points per game. The commander of the offense is junior quarterback Brad Fream who has thrown for 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns. One of Fream’s favorite targets is senior wide receiver Coby McGee who has 416 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another weapon on the Viking’s offense is Cameron Davis who has 286 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season. One player to watch on defense is senior defensive back Jaylyn Thomas who has an offer from the University of Texas-San Antonio.
Captain Shreve Gators (3-2) at Parkway Panthers (2-3)
Last Friday, Captain Shreve was defeated by archrival, C.E. Byrd 34-17 while Parkway squeaked past Airline 42-35. Both teams need this win to keep pace in the race for the district title.
The Gators are led by the senior dynamic duo of quarterback Lucas Grubb and running back James Ivory III. Grubb has thrown for 482 yards and four touchdowns, despite missing some time due to an injury, while Ivory has 869 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. One of Grubb’s favorite targets is senior Stephen Smith who has 345 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Despite losing two of their stars to injury, Parkway is still in contention in their district. The Panthers are now led by junior Amani Larry who has thrown for 494 yards, rushed for 291 yards, and has four total touchdowns. Parkway’s leading rusher is EJ Williams with 521 yards and 10 touchdowns. Another player to watch is senior Israel Mukuamu, a Florida State commit, who makes plays on both sides of the ball at safety and receiver.
