Parkway Panthers (3-3) at C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets (4-2)
In Week 6, Parkway routed Captain Shreve 49-29 while C.E. Byrd easily got past Southwood 43-13. Both teams have one district loss so the winner will remain in reach of Evangel Christian Academy who is undefeated in District 1-5A.
Parkway has turned around their season by winning two straight after dropping three of their first four and losing two their stars, quarterback Justin Rogers and wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., to injury. The Panthers are now led by junior quarter Amani Larry and senior running back EJ Williams. Larry has thrown for 606 yards and four touchdowns while Williams has 746 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
In what was considered a rebuilding year for the Yellow Jackets, Byrd has quietly posted a 4-2 record thus far and is currently second in district play. Byrd has used their triple-option rushing attack to control time of possession and wear out opposing defenses. The Yellow Jackets currently have three players with 293 rushing yards or more on the year. Senior Jalin Thomas leads the way with 511 yards and seven touchdowns and has the ability to make plays in the return game. Junior Charlie Barham is second on the team with 370 rushing yards and four touchdowns. With a win Friday night against Parkway and a victory against Evangel next week, the Yellow Jackets could be atop of the district standings.
Benton Tigers (6-0) at North DeSoto Griffins (4-2)
Last week Benton remained undefeated by defeating Minden 43-21 while North DeSoto destroyed Bossier 53-18. Benton is led by senior quarterback Garrett Hable who has thrown for 1,307 yards and 13 touchdowns. Another weapon on the Tigers offense is running back Jermaine Newton who has 558 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Two wide receivers to watch are Doyle Adams Jr. and Legend Dentler.
This will be a huge home game for North DeSoto if the Griffins can take down Benton there will be chaos atop the district standings. North DeSoto is led by junior running Aubrey Scott who has 966 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Jaden Procell has thrown for 515 yards and three touchdowns. Another weapon on offense is senior wide receiver Maguire Parker who snagged 19 passes for 343 yards, has 19 carries for 200 more yards on the ground, and five total touchdowns. Parker, Procell, and Scott will all need to have big games in order for North DeSoto to pull off the upset.
