Evangel Christian Academy Eagles 42, C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets 0
Evangel proved once again that they are the kings of District 1-5A. The Eagles’ defense shutout another quality opponent and still have not allowed a touchdown through five district games. In the game against Byrd, Evangel came up with four turnovers including interceptions by Ardarius Washington and Patrick Jones. Washington was the Player of the Game for Evangel returning his interception 59-yards for a touchdown and had seven tackles plus rushed for 99 yards with two scores on the offensive side of the ball. Two more touchdowns from quarterback Blake Shapen on passes to Josh Walker.
Byrd star running back Jalin Thomas, who rushed for over 300 yards a week ago against Parkway, was limited to 29 yards against this lockdown defensive unit.
The Eagles extend their home district game winning streak to 75 games and have never lost a district game at Rodney Duron Field. The last time Evangel lost a home district game was November 2, 1990 when they hosted Plain Dealing and played at Calvary Baptist Academy’s field.
Hahnville Tigers 27, East St. John Wildcats 0
Anthony “Pooka” Williams had one of the best individual performances in Louisiana on Friday night as the Kansas commit put up 334 total yards and scored three times against East St. John. Williams also may have made a catch of the year candidate by snagging a pass with one hand while having a defender hang all over him.
The Tigers defense also came to play as they snagged three interceptions, two by Khalil Mason and one by Hunter LeBlanc. The Wildcats were held to under 200 yards of total offense in the game and managed just 49 yards in the second half.
