Benton Tigers (8-0) at Woodlawn Knights (6-2)

Last week, Benton destroyed Huntington 63-16 while Woodlawn routed Bossier 62-7. This will be a key battle at the top of District 1-4A as the Tigers are looking to remain undefeated and clinch at least a share of a district title with a win over Woodlawn. The Knights are seeking to take down Benton for a second straight year after defeating Benton 54-28 in 2016.

The Tiger’s offense is led senior quarterback Garrett Hable and senior running back Jermaine Newton. Hable has thrown for 1,603 yards and 19 touchdowns while Newton has rushed for 791 yards and 17 touchdowns. Benton’s top two wide receivers include Legend Dentler and Doyle Adams Jr.

Woodlawn has been led all season by monster senior running back Trivensky Mosley who fills up the stat sheet every week including scoring three times last week. Another playmaker is senior Larry Moton who can make plays on the ground and at the wide receiver position including having 122 receiving yards and two weeks last week. On defense, one player to watch is senior cornerback Skylon Johnson who had two fumble recoveries and one interception in last week’s win.

Booker T. Washington Lions (1-7) at Northwood Falcons (6-2)

Last Friday, Northwood shutout Minden 38-0 while Booker T. Washington lost a heartbreaker to North Desoto 35-28. BTW is trying to play spoiler among Benton, Northwood, and Woodlawn who are the top three teams atop District 1-4A. The Lions won their first game of the season a couple weeks ago and nearly knocked off North DeSoto last week showing vast improvements each week.

The Lions are led by senior dual-threat quarterback Tahje Green who has 639 passing yards, rushed for 209 yards, and scored six total touchdowns. Another star to watch on the offensive side of the ball is senior running back Ly’tavious Anderson who has 701 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Anderson torched North DeSoto for over 200 yards last week and is eager to put up similar numbers this Friday. The leading wide receiver is senior Tyron Carter who has snagged 26 passes for 365 yards and one touchdown.

Northwood’s high-powered offense is led by sophomore quarterback Luke Bogan who has thrown for 2,360 yards, 29 touchdowns, and completing almost 72 percent of his passes. The Falcon’s top wide receivers include La’Cedric Smith, Detraveon Brown and Trayon Jones Jr. Deshantric Watson is the team’s leading rusher with 549 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
