Parkway 20, C.E. Byrd 6
The Parkway Panthers came out with a vengeance after losing to Evangel last week 56-21. Parkway used their lockdown defense to stuff Byrd’s offense. The Byrd Yellow Jackets normally utilize their rushing attack against opponents but only managed 145 rushing yards on 41 carries against the Panthers. Byrd’s only points of the game came on defense when Trent Touchet returned a fumble 80-yards in the second quarter.
Parkway was led by senior quarterback Keondre Wudtee, a Louisiana Tech commit, who completed 14 of 24 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns. A star of the Panthers defense was senior free safety Lloyd Cole who finished with seven solo tackles and assisted on 12 other tackles.
Benton 28, North DeSoto21
The game between the two preseason District 1-4A favorites lived up to the hype as the Benton Tigers escaped past the North DeSoto Griffins 28-21.
Benton used their young but experienced offense to pounce out to a 20-7 halftime lead but North DeSoto made it interesting with 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Griffins struggled to convert several fourth down conversions late in the game which hindered them from taking the lead.
Benton relied on sophomore quarterback Garrett Hable and sophomore running back Jermaine Newton to get the victory. Hable completed 12 of 22 passes for 155 yards while Newton had 119 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards and two total touchdowns.
North DeSoto was led by quarterback Kyler Radford who had 76 rushing yards and 106 passing yards and one touchdown.
