Evangel Christian Academy located in Shreveport, Louisiana, had a great 2015 season as the Eagles finished 9-3 and advanced to the state semifinals where they lost to eventual state champion, Catholic, 27-21 in overtime. After losing their first game to nationally ranked St. Joseph Prep (PA) the Eagles won eight straight games before dropping their season finale to C.E. Byrd.
One of the reasons for their great success in 2015 was their explosive offense which scored 36.4 points a game. The offense had many leaders including senior wide receiver Corey Henderson and junior quarterback Connor Curry however one of the unsung heroes was junior offensive tackle Ethan Harvey.
The 6’5”, 279 pound, beast proved to be an unstoppable forced as he dominated opponents all season. After his junior season, Harvey earned several individual honors including first team All-District. The Class of 2017 recruit currently has one offer and has received interest from several other schools including LSU, Baylor and Oklahoma.
Harvey also works hard in the classroom where he currently has a 3.7 GPA and has plans to study either engineering or business in college. He also has the goal of having an even better senior season and becoming a better leader and player for the Eagles.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Ethan to talk about his career at Evangel Christian Academy and his recruiting process.
Interview
What are your thoughts on the 2015 season?
“I think we had a great season but I wish it would have ended in the dome but we lost in the semifinals. It was the next best thing to lose the eventual state champions Catholic and not lose to the runner-up.”
What are your thoughts on your individual performance?
“Personally I think I could have done better as a leader and a player. I expected us to better then we were. I think I did okay for my junior season. There is always room for improvement.”
Did you receive any individual honors?
“First team all-district and first team All-City.”
What are your strengths on the football field?
“I’m well rounded player. I’m not too great at one area. I know I need to improve on my footwork. Everything always need improvement.”
What was your most memorable moment last season?
“After every win, we always came into the locker room and were smiling and laughing. The halftime against Catholic in the semifinals when we were winning 21-0. Our coach said we needed to finish because the game wasn’t over. We didn’t listen.”

Have you gone on any visits?
“Yes. I’ve been to Oklahoma State, LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, SMU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas.”
Will you attend any camps this summer?
“I’m not too sure about camps. There is a time constraint with football practice. I’m one of the captains of the team and I have to be at practice every day.”
What is your favorite thing about playing football?
“Playing with my brothers. It is a team sport but there isn’t anything better that everyone having your back. All the memories are made as a team and not as an individual.”

“I want to go into engineering but I’ve also considered business.”

What are your thoughts about playing your first game of the year on the road against Allen (TX)?
“My thought is that we want win. I won’t feel any pressure going in. It will be a great game.”
