In 2015, Union Parish located in Farmerville, Louisiana, had to go through a rebuilding year after finishing the season 5-6 one year after reaching the state quarterfinals. The Farmers did make the playoffs last year but they suffered a heartbreaking 34-29 loss in the first round to Bogalusa.
In 2015, Union Parish scored on average 25 points a game and one of the leaders of their offense was 5’8”, 182 pound, junior running back Shamar Turner. Turner rushed for 1,400 yards as a sophomore in 2014 then ran for 1,134 yards and nine touchdowns in 2015. After his junior campaign, he won several individual honors including first team All-District.
The Class of 2017 recruit is currently receiving interest from Arizona and has plans to attend some camps and visit some colleges before his senior season starts.
Turner also works hard in the classroom where he currently has a 3.1 GPA and plans on studying sports medicine in college.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru, I sat down with Shamar to talk about his career at Union Parish and his recruiting process.
