West Monroe had an outstanding season in 2015 with the Rebels going a perfect 10-0 in the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the 5A state playoffs. The Rebels defeated Central (Baton Rouge) 40-13 in the first round of the playoffs but unfortunately fell 28-21 to Ponchatoula in the second round and finished the year 11-1.

One of the keys to their success was the play of their lockdown defense which only gave up on average 15.6 points a game. One of the great players on this defensive unit was junior linebacker Jacob Adams.

Adams finished his junior campaign with 88 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss, five pass break-ups, four forced fumbles, one sack, and one interception.

The 6’1”, 220 pound, workhorse has already received interest from several in-state schools including Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Northwestern State. He also has taken some unofficial visit to Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Northwestern State, and TCU.

In his upcoming senior year, Adams plans on taking more of a leadership role on the team and he says, “I have to make it my best.”

In an exclusive Recruiting News interview, I sat down with Jacob to talk about his career at West Monroe and his recruiting process.

Interview

What are your thoughts on the 2015 season?

“We had a great season. We had one of the toughest schedules and we went undefeated in the regular season. We played as a team and we were really close. In the Ponchatoula game, we just couldn’t make the right plays.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance?

“I thought I had a pretty good year. I want to improve on my interceptions, sacks, and tackles for a loss definitely.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I have an eye for the ball. Sometimes I can read stuff before it happens. I also have good instincts and I love to hit.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“First team All-District, Honorable Mention All-State, and All-Northeast Louisiana.”

What was your most memorable moment in your junior season?

“My most memorable moment was the Ridgeway game when I had nine tackles and three forced fumbles in the first half.”

“I plan on going to a lot of camps.”

“Friday night in Rebel Stadium and all the fans yelling. There is no other feeling like that when you get the first hit of the game.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My dad, Joey Adams, and one of our linebackers coach, Dino Casola, they are always coaching me up. Dino is a younger coach so he is like the brother I don’t have. He gives me individual coaching time. My dad has been coaching me and telling me what to do since I could walk. They are always helping me get better.”

“Thank you sir.”
