Alabama has started National Signing Day 2016 with a great pickup out of Kentwood, Louisiana, as 4-star cornerback Shyheim Carter has committed to the Crimson Tide.
Carter had a great senior year as he helped lead Kentwood to the Louisiana 1A championship game where they beat Haynesville. After the season, the star cornerback was selected to play in the Under-Armour All-American Game.
The 6’0”, 177 pounds has blazing speed as he can run the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds. He can also change direction easily and uses his strength and size to keep up with big receivers.
The Class of 2017 recruit had an interesting recruiting process as he originally committed to the Tide in his junior year but decommitted on Aug. 10, 2015 to enjoy the process. After his decommitment, offers continued to roll in as he finished with 16 offers from all around the country. On the morning of his announcement, Carter trimmed his list down to three schools including Alabama, Ole Miss, and Miami.
Carter then announced his decision to recommit to Alabama in an emotional ceremony in his school’s gymnasium.
The star from Kentwood joins an already star studded recruiting class highlighted by cornerback Nigel Knott and defensive tackle Raekwon Davis.
As Signing Day goes along, Alabama will once again have one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
