Louisiana Tech slipped to a 5-5 record in 2020 after a solid 10-3 finishing in 2019. The Bulldogs fell victim to inexperience at key positions and of course COVID-19 messing with their schedule. Head Coach Skip Holtz is preparing for his ninth season at the helm as he has compiled a 61-41 record overall which includes a 6-1 record in bowl games.
Louisiana Tech’s 2021 recruiting class is key to helping the Bulldogs to get to the top of the conference again. Coach Holtz and his coaching staff are focusing on recruiting their backyard as six of the eight early signees are from Louisiana and Texas. Other areas of need that this coaching staff addressed are in the defensive front seven and running back.
The top-rated recruit who signed early with Louisiana Tech is three-star linebacker J’Dan Burnett from Nolah Catholic in Fort Worth (TX). Two recruits from nearby Shreveport who will help the defensive line are defensive end Erron Bean, who starred at Huntington High School, and defensive tackle Carson Bruno, who was a monster at C.E. Byrd High School.
There are also two transfers who are looking to make an immediate impact in the Bulldogs’ program, all-purpose back Marcus Williams Jr., who is transferring from Appalachian State, and cornerback Baylen Buchanan, who is joining Louisiana Tech from Tennessee.
One-star wide receiver Cyrus Allen, from New Orleans, is currently committed to Louisiana Tech and should sign with the program next month as National Signing Day approaches.
It will be exciting to watch who else joins Allen and signs with the Bulldogs to make Ruston their collegiate home.
The Bulldogs currently have nine commits to the 2021 class, that includes eight three-star players, ranked 10th in Conference USA.
