Overview
The Woodlawn Knights have a long and rich football history in Shreveport, Louisiana. Their most famous alumn is former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. Head Coach Jerwin Wilson has led the Knights to the playoffs in his first two years with the team but unfortunately Woodlawn lost in the first round both times.
The Knights look to build off the experience they have gained in the past two seasons and advance past the opening weekend in the playoffs in 2015. Woodlawn has some key games when they host Haughton on Sept. 18 and travel to North DeSoto on Oct. 9.
Offense
The Knights offense scored 23.5 points a game in 2014 and they are returning five starters from last season. Senior quarterback Trevion Youngblood will once again lead this offense in 2015. The 5’11”, 185 pound, dual-threat signal caller threw for 1,156 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago. Youngblood also ran for 450 yards and six more touchdowns and was selected second-team All-District after his junior season.
Senior wide receiver Kadarrius Cole will give Youngblood a talented target to throw to downfield. The offense line is led by 5’11”, 250 pound, senior Johnnie Maiden and 5’11”, 253 pound, junior Montrell Burnham. Maiden was selected second-team All-District in 2014.
Defense
Woodlawn is returning five starters for a defense that gave up 29.45 points a game last year. The team returns some experienced and talented defensive leaders that Woodlawn will lean on to lead this defensive unit.
The defensive line is led by 6’1″, 215 pound, senior Jason Enriquez. The linebackers are led by junior LaJohnathon Riser who was selected second-team All-District in 2014. Senior defensive back Matthew Williams (6’1″, 175) is the leader of the secondary.
2015 will be a big year for Woodlawn’s defense as there will be plenty of young players will gain some experience.
