Louisville Adds another Class of 2016 Quarterback with Jawon Pass
Written by Ryan Wright
A July 13 decision date that was pushed back three days turned out to be a great thing for Louisville when Georgia quarterback Jawon Pass verbally committed to the Cardinals.
The Carver High School star has tremendous upside listed at 6’5”, 220 pounds, with great speed, clocked a 4.5 forty-yard dash. Pass gained recruiting attention as a junior passing for over 2,100 yards with 23 touchdowns against just two picks while rushing for another 400 yards with 11 more scores.
In 2014 he helped the Tigers to an 8-3 record making the first round of the playoffs before a tough 13-12 loss to Jones County. The offers started rolling in from some of the top programs in the nation like LSU, Florida, Mississippi State, Miami, Nebraska, Clemson, Missouri, Central Florida, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame.
On May 29, Pass set an announcement date for July 13 eventually narrowing down his list of some 22 offers to Alabama, Auburn, and Louisville. On Thursday, three days after his initial announcement date, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl East squad member made the decision official on Twitter posting, “Blessed & thankful to say I’m officially a Cardinal.”
Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino begins and ends his offense, and his entire team, around the quarterback. Pass is the second signal caller added to the 2016 class joining Tylin Oden (Columbia, TN). The Cardinals also took a quarterback in their 2015 class, 4-star Lamar Jackson (Boynton Beach, FL) setting up a potential logjam under center that will have to be worked on by attrition on the field.
