A hard grind against 3S Florida defenses a year ago in Naples High School’s run-heavy offense will see the script flipped this fall at Barron Collier (Naples) for Niko Boyce. The 2025 quarterback used more of his dual threat abilities with the Golden Eagles as a sophomore but will get to air it out during the 2023 schedule for the Cougars. Getting to see more of Boyce’s arm talent has next-level scouts’ attention.
Executing a new offense has Boyce pumped for the newly started season.
“We run a basic Spread offense, lighting up defenses with different schemes,” Boyce said. “We relate our offense to Tennessee’s. In our offense, we spread our receivers out really wide, and we run a lot of concepts to confuse the defense. We have something for everyone, even our run game is really good.”
Warming the wing up over the summer months, Boyce covered his focus fine tuning his skills.
“My timing with my throws and I wanted to incorporate more of my legs because I am a dual threat,” Boyce stated. “I am looking forward to throwing more this year; I will have good stats for colleges to see.”
The stats began piling up in the Cougars’ Week 1 win (38-14) against Estro. Boyce was asked about his personal performance in the victory.
“It went pretty well,” Boyce shared. “We had a slow start, then we started to pick it up with the run, and then we started opening it up. I hit Brody (Graham) for a lot of yards. I hit him for an 80-yard touchdown. Our offensive line executed great in the second half, and our running backs had a really good game.”
Most players and teams see great improvement after their season opener getting to tweak little mistakes or flaws against live competition. Boyce shared the little details he is focused on before taking on St. Cloud at home come Friday.
“Being a little bit more calm in the pocket, I was a little rushed last week,” Boyce said. “I talked with my coach about staying calm and being relaxed back there.”
Along the recruiting trail, Oregon and Houston Christian have dropped offers on Boyce. More teams are keyed in on Boyce’s junior season.
“South Florida, Liberty, Pitt, and Duke are showing a lot of love right now; they are sending stuff every other day,” Boyce shared. “Tennessee is showing interest as well.”
Two game-day visits are in the planning stages for the 2025 QB.
“This season, in two or three weeks we have a game on Thursday (Sept. 14); I may go to Liberty or Louisville then,” Boyce stated. “We have a bye week in about three weeks (Sept. 8), I will go to the other one that I don’t go to after that Thursday game then.”
The chance to see the Flames in action will be an opportunity to learn more about Liberty.
“I am excited to be able to talk to their coaches and see how they run their offense,” Boyce said. “Liberty had a good dual threat that was drafted from there, Malik Willis; I want to see how they run things over there.”
Ties to South Florida have helped Boyce bond with the Cardinals’ staff.
“One thing that is really exciting, their linebackers coach, coach (Mark) Ivey, actually talks to me a lot,” Boyce stated. “He was the head coach at my high school (2007-11) a few years ago. It is nice talking to him. Louisville is very family friendly; you feel that as soon as you step foot there.”
In the season opening win, Boyce threw for 254 yards with one touchdown.
