LSU’s 2016 recruiting class added a key missing piece on Friday with the addition of running back/linebacker Devin White.

The North Webster (Louisiana) High School talent has been a two-way superstar since his sophomore season rushing for 1,094 yards with 20 scores and coming up with 99 tackles. White entrenched himself into a recruiting “must get” after coming up with 2,287 rushing yards in 2014 with 30 scores and continuing his hot play on the defensive side of the ball with 93 more stops.

Before White’s senior season, he listed out his Top 10 schools, in no order, trimming down a list of over 30 offers. His top programs included Arkansas, UCLA, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida State, Alabama, Miami, LSU, Texas A&M, and Auburn. The Springhill (LA) native had another outstanding season rushing for 1,650 yards with 31 scores and began narrowing his list of 10 to five. Florida State got his first official visit (Oct. 10), followed by Arkansas (Dec. 4), and LSU (Dec. 11). Alabama was supposed to host White on Jan. 22.

White is expected to be an early enrollee helping add to the possibility of getting some early playing time if the Tigers backfield rotation can find a spot for him. The Tigers have a surefire Heisman Trophy candidate returning in Leonard Fournette. In the 2015 class, LSU signed four running backs, Nicholas Brossette (3-star), Bry’Kiethon Mouton (3-star), David Ducre (4-star), and Derrius Guice (5-star). Guice was second on the team during the 2015 season with 445 yards rushing off 51 carries with three touchdowns. Brossette played in nine games but was primarily a special teams contributor getting 12 carries for 65 yards. Mouton and Ducre, could play running back, but are being groomed at fullback for the Tigers.

The Tigers now have 20 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class highlighted by 4-star defensive linemen Glen Logan and Edwin Alexander, 4-star wide receivers Drake Davis and Stephen Sullivan, 4-star defensive backs Saivion Smith and Cameron Lewis, and 4-star linebackers Michael Divinity and Erick Fowler.
