Late spring is usually a slow period out on the recruiting trail for college football commits, but someone did not tell the LSU Tigers. Since Friday, LSU has landed five verbal commitments netting Mississippi offensive guard/defensive tackle Saahdiq Charles on Tuesday.

LSU snuck out of the Magnolia State with a Top 10 Mississippi recruit with Charles. The 6-5, 314 pound, versatile lineman had a final two of LSU and Mississippi State entering his decision day. Tigers offensive line coach Jeff Grimes worked his magic with Charles not only pulling him away from the Bulldogs but also from offers handed out by Arkansas State, Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, and New Mexico among others.

MSU offered on Jan. 30 but the April 9 offer from LSU proved to be the bigger catch for the Madison-Ridgeland Academy standout.

LSU now has 12 verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class. Texas offensive tackle Austin Deculus started the recent hot streak for LSU on Friday followed by wide receiver Stephen Guidry, fullback Tory Carter on Sunday, defensive end Aaron Moffitt on Monday, and Charles on Tuesday.
