New University of Memphis head coach Mike Norvell got his first recruit for the 2017 class on Tuesday landing in-state defensive end Braylon Brown.
Brown helped Cordova High School into the playoffs before suffering a first round 28-9 defeat to Wilson Central. The Wolves posted an 8-3 mark with Brown coming up with 38 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, and nine sacks while forcing one fumble – a 20-yard scoop and score and picked up three loose balls in nine games played.
The Tigers moved in on Brown on March 2, one day after the 6’4”, 265 pound, talent received an offer from Cincinnati. Brown made his commitment public on Tuesday via Twitter posting, “Blessed To Announce My Commitment To The University Of Memphis Tigers Football @Dbowman85 @CoachDickey1 #GOTigers.”
With Brown, the Tigers are getting a big and powerful strong-side defensive end who keeps his motor going and is able to dominate the opposition right now on raw athletic talent alone. Once a little more refined, Brown’s upside does not seem limited.
