Getting top players on college campuses as often as possible is one way to land top prospects year after year. Miami is working their on-campus magic to near perfection landing two recruits on Saturday during a Hurricanes Junior Day in wide receiver Kevaughn Dingle and quarterback N’Kosi Perry.
The Hurricanes have 12 verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class. Seven of the committed were recruited under former head coach Al Golden but new head coach Mark Richt has started to add his recruiting needs to the mix landing five since Jan. 30. The two latest additions are both Florida talents.
Dingle had a breakout junior season for Miami Carol City hauling in 29 passes for 838 yards with 11 scores. The Hurricanes have had a long existing relationship with the 6’1”, 193 pound, playmaker. Dingle made multiple unofficial visits to Miami’s campus in 2015 and has been to two Canes’ Junior Days this spring. Interest in Dingle has been spiking since the 2016 recruiting class with Notre Dame, Kentucky, Colorado and most recently Arkansas offering.
Miami returns another familiar face to the 2017 recruiting class in Perry. Perry committed to the Canes on Sept. 26 but decommitted on Feb. 4, three days after picking up an offer from Georgia. In total, the Vanguard High School talent has 12 offers with Auburn, Louisville, South Carolina, Central Florida, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee among the many. Another big offer came from Florida State. The Seminoles hosted Perry on Feb. 27 for a Junior Day but Miami pulled Perry back on Saturday.
The 6’3”, 176 pound, dual-threat has seen playing time over the last two seasons but got a chance to really show out as a junior passing for 2,510 yards with 33 touchdowns against just three picks helping the Knights to a 9-3 record. Showing his running abilities, Perry picked up 287 yards off 95 carries with 11 additional scores.
