Notre Dame added their seventh overall commitment to their 2018 recruiting class on Monday securing highly sought after Michigan cornerback Kalon Gervin.
Gervin was a big part of Detroit powerhouse Cass Tech’s 14-0 season in 2016 helping the Technicians secure a state championship with a 49-20 win over Catholic Central. Their 5-11, 180 pound, cover corner had amassed over 30 scholarship offers for his stellar play on the field with teams like Michigan, LSU, Mississippi State, Florida, Cal, Nebraska, Penn State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Oregon, Colorado, and Arkansas hoping to land him.
The recruiting battle seemed to come down to Michigan State and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish offered Gervin on Feb. 6 hosting him for an unofficial over the weekend. Gervin posted his commitment on Twitter Monday morning with a post reading, “I am honored to say that I have committed to the University of Notre Dame! I wanna say Thanks to everybody that helped me throughout my process & Thanks to all the coaches that recruited me. God Bless. God. Country. Notre Dame.”
247Sports rates the Fighting Irish’s 2018 class No. 3 in the nation with five four-star talents; Phil Jurkovec, Matthew Bauer, Markese Stepp, Jayson Ademilola, and Gervin.
