Michigan State added another one of their top targets in the 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday with the verbal commitment of Ohio native Matt Carrick.
Carrick, listed at 6’4”, and anywhere from 275 to 320 pounds, helped Perry High School (Massillon) to a 13-3 record during the 2015 season opening up holes for his running backs while keeping defenders off of his quarterback.
Recruiting for the 3-star talent has been mixed with teams like Iowa State, Buffalo, Akron, Ohio, Miami (OH), and Toledo all extending offers. The under the radar talent had camped with Pitt but visited the Spartans on April 1 receiving an offer from the Big Ten powerhouse leading to his commitment.
Carrick’s commitment was low key by today’s standards simply posting his announcement on Twitter reading, “Officially a Spartan! Can’t wait to be a part of something special! #Spartan.”
Michigan State now has six verbal commitments to their 2017 class with Carrick being the second offensive lineman hauled in joining 4-star talent Kevin Jarvis. The Spartans 2017 class has a really strong foundation with a dynamic future one-two punch of Iowa quarterback Rocky Lombardi and Ann Arbor wide receiver talent Hunter Rison.
