Michigan State jumped on the national recruiting scene on Wednesday landing their first verbal commitment of the 2017 class with in-state talent Cody White.
White has been one of the hotter recruits in the state of Michigan since the end of his junior season after hauling in 49 passes for 927 yards with eight touchdowns for Walled Lake Western. The 6’3”, 190 pound, talent was pushing 20 offers when he committed to the Spartans. Some of the teams to offer White includes Iowa, Boston College, Northwestern, Iowa State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, and Minnesota.
MSU extended an offer to White on March 1, leading to an unofficial visit on March 15. On March 16, White made his decision public via Twitter posting, “Blessed, I have committed to Michigan State University.”
White helped Walled Lake Western make a deep run into the Michigan High School playoffs posting a 14-2 mark in 2015 before falling to Lowell 49-34 in the semifinals. In addition to being a threat on the outside, White completed 6 of 10 passes for 136 yards tossing for two scores, carried the ball 12 times for 96 yards with two more touchdowns, and racked up 57 kick returns yards and 80 punt return yards on special teams. He also pitched in on defense at corner stopping 22 ball carriers, broke up three passes, and picked off four.
