Misleading Information comes out on Former Florida RB Adam Lane’s Transfer
Written by Ryan Wright
Somewhere in between Gainesville and Winter Haven someone has misled or blatantly lied about the status of former Florida Gators running back Adam Lane. On Sunday new Gators’ head coach Jim McElwain announced the Birmingham Bowl MVP was leaving the Florida program to be closer to family but a New Orleans Times-Picayune report on Wednesday offers an opposing reality.
Per the Times-Picayune, Lane (5’8”, 224) is transferring to Eastern Kentucky. When the news of Lane’s departure from the Florida program was initially announced on Sunday family issues were at the heart of the separation. McElwain explained Lane’s status stating, “Family comes first in this program, and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can to help him.”
What appears to be the truth, however the truth came to be, is a parting of ways over playing time. Lane played in three games last season picking up 12 yards against Vanderbilt, 60 yards against his new team Eastern Kentucky, and 109 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown in Florida’s 28-20 win over East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.
Florida returns 2014 starting running back Kelvin Taylor and McElwain signed two standout tailbacks in the 2015 recruiting class, Jordan Cronkrite (Westminster Christian HS) and Jordan Scarlett (St. Thomas Aquinas).
Eastern Kentucky is a FCS program out of the Ohio Valley Conference. The bump down in classification will allow Lane to play immediately for the Colonels. Lane will still get some Division-I and SEC action with EKU traveling to N.C. State on Sept. 12 and visiting Kentucky on Oct. 3.
The Colonels finished the 2014 season 9-4 losing 52-3 to Florida suffering a first round NCAA FCS Playoffs loss to Indiana State 36-16.
