Mississippi State landed an overlooked prospect on Monday that could prove to be a big “get” for the Bulldogs when all is said and done with wide receiver Monterio Hunt.

Hunt helped guide Walnut High School to a 9-3 record during the 2014 season but missed the entire 2015 season due to a broken leg. The 6’1”, 180 pound, receiver was cleared to play by the end of the season in time for the playoffs but opted to work his way back into football shape with a healthy offseason full of time in the weight room and doing speed and agility drills.

The Bulldogs offered Hunt after a camp in June after his sophomore season and kept the offer on the table. Now that he is healthy other teams like Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Auburn have started showing interest. South Alabama is Hunt’s only other Division-I offer at this time.

Hunt is a MSU legacy with his grandfather, Larry Gilliard, and uncle, Michael Haddix, playing for the Bulldogs. The decision was made public via Twitter with Hunt posting, “110% committed to MSU #HailState.”

MSU now has six verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class hitting the community college ranks hard. Three of the six recruits are from the JUCO level.
