The Lee’s Summit West Titans are having another solid season in 2020. The four-time state champions are 5-2 through their first seven games of the season and have a roster full of experienced players that are ready to battle for a fifth state title. One of the leaders of the defense is senior linebacker Zachary Myers.

Myers has already racked up 53 total tackles including 4.5 for a loss and one sack thus far. The 6’2”, 205-pound, defender is a hard-hitter with a tremendous ability to break through offensive lines making plays in the opponents’ backfield. Myers also possesses great footwork, strength and intensity.

This Class of 2021 recruit currently has one college offer and drawing interest from several schools. Myers is not only a leader on the gridiron but also in the classroom where he holds a 4.0 GPA and scored a 23 on his ACT.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Zachary to talk about his senior season and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Zachary, how would you grade your individual performance this season?

I would say that I have had a pretty good season as I am leading the team in tackles and have had a nose for the ball. I would say that after every game I find things I did great and things I need to improve on. I just try to get better every week.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My strengths are that I am a very downhill linebacker and love to make contact behind or on the line of scrimmage to stop runs.

What kind of defensive scheme does Lee’s Summit West run?

At Lee’s Summit west we run many fronts and coverages but primarily we are in a 3-5 stack. But what really makes our defense so good is the fact that we are always taught to be more physical and always run to the ball.

How do your skills translate to this scheme?

My skills translate well. As only having a 3-man front, it’s essential that our linebackers play downhill to fill open gaps as we only have 3 down lineman.

What area of your game have you seen the most improvement in since the start of the season?

I would have to say I have improved most this season on getting over on lineman downfield trying to block me and plugging holes quicker and with more force.

Is there a current NFL player that you try to model your game after?

I model most of my playing after Jamal Adams (Seahawks), because of how smart he is on the field and how he always plays fast downhill and is a playmaker.

What are your maxes in the weight room?

My max bench is 255 and my max squat is 375.

Do you have any college offers?

I currently have one offer from Evangel University.

Are you receiving interest from any other colleges?

I have had a few messages with other NAIA coaches.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

I used to play baseball freshman year but currently only play football.

What do you like most about playing at Lee’s Summit West?

My favorite thing about playing at Lee’s Summit West is the atmosphere of winning and the great competition, as we play in the Suburban Gold Conference and get to play the best of the best.

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

The biggest impact on my football career has been my dad. He has always pushed me to be the best player I can be and is always trying to improve all of my weaknesses even when I don’t want to admit them.

What are your goals for the rest of your senior season?

My goal for the rest of my senior season is to win the state championship and play to the best of my abilities every snap.

What do you want your legacy to be after you graduate?

I would love to leave a legacy of being one of the best linebackers at Lee’s Summit West ever, but more importantly to be remembered as a great teammate and student.

What is your GPA?

My GPA is 4.0.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Thank you for your time and good luck the rest of your senior season.

Thank you, sir.
