Offensive tackle Dylan Halterman is part of a key group of rising stars at Lee’s Summit West High School that are all coming back for their senior season in 2020. In 2019, the Titans finished 4-6 but Halterman and his teammates have plans to make a deeper run towards a state championship after being shut out in the first round of the playoffs last season.
This 6’4”, 260-pound, standout has tremendous blocking ability in both the passing and running game by using his strength and great footwork. Halterman also possesses good athleticism in the trenches. This class of 2021 prospect currently holds two college offers and is also drawing interest from several in-state college programs including Washburn and Pittsburg State.
Not only is Halterman a leader on the football field but also works hard in the weight room and in the classroom where he currently holds a 3.5 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Dylan to talk about his junior season at Lee’s Summit West and get an update on his recruiting process.
Interview
How would you grade your individual performance last season and why?
“I would say a B-plus or an A-minus, because it was my first year starting and I only gave up one sack and two or three runs at the QB all year and I went up against a lot of D-I players.”
What was your most memorable moment last year?
“The game before my grandma passed away, I let it loose and I was pancaking kids and throwing kids around. “
What are your strengths on the football field?
“I do my job right, pass protection, run blocking, and identifying the defensive front.”
What type of challenges did you face during your junior season?
“We started losing a lot of our games and players were not caring anymore.”
How did you overcome this challenge?
“The coaches preached love to each other, after we would get on one another, and to keep our head up and keep working.”
What is your practice and workout schedule during the offseason?
“Starting January and in February, we have “survivor” which is lifting and running then after February it’s just lifting. Once school ends, we have 6:00 a.m. workouts to about 8:00 then OTAs from 9:00 to10:30.”
What are you working on the most?
“My strength and getting to know the plays and technique.”
What are your maxes in the weight room?
“My bench is 260, my squat is 400, my clean is 215, and my deadlift is 415.”
What do you like most about playing as an offensive lineman?
“The whole offensive line is a unit, we all love each other and hang out. We always help each other and push each other to be better.”
Do you have any NFL players that you try to model your game after?
“Joe Thomas, Taylor Lawan, and now Tristen Wirfs.”
Do you have any college offers right now?
“Grand View and Graceland.”
What other schools are showing you interest at this time?
“Pittsburg State, Columbia, Black Hills State, Missouri Western, and Washburn.”
Have you been to any college camps?
“Kansas State, Iowa State, and Missouri Western.”
Which camp did you like the most?
“Kansas State, because of the energy and atmosphere there, and their coaches and their facilities.”
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
“Social Studies, because I really like history and the World Wars.”
What is your GPA?
“I have a 3.5 GPA.”
What do you like most about playing at Lee’s Summit West?
“I play with friends I have played with forever and I have known the coaches for a long time. We all love each other, we work hard, and we also get to have fun too.”
What are some goals that you already have for your senior season?
“Go Division-I, win more games than we did last year, and don’t give up a sack or a run to the quarterback.”
Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
“Every dream you imagine, everything you see, hear, and feel in your sleep, that’s not a fantasy, that’s your deep instinct telling you it can be real. Follow those visions and dreams, and believe what you know. Only you can turn those dreams into reality. Never stop till you do”.
Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.
“Thank you, sir.”
