It’s time for the quarterfinals in the Missouri Class 5 playoffs. The eight remaining teams are all battling for a chance to be named Class 5 state champion on Nov. 28 in St. Louis.
In third round there were some exciting games as Chaminade squeaked past Pattonville, 20-18, and Park Hill beat Staley, 27-16. Fort Zumwalt North shutout Parkway West, 35-0, while Summit blanked Fox, 36-0 in the third round and these two team look to have some extra momentum going into their quarterfinal matchups.
Among the eight teams that remain there are some star players who are trying to lead their team to the promise land. These players include Fort Osage quarterback Skylar Thompson (Kansas State), Chaminade defensive back Roderick Campbell (Northwestern), Battle defensive ends Plais Dow and Jerrion Nelson, Nixa kicker Logan Tyler (Florida State), Park Hill defensive back Davion Tyler and running back Matt Harris, Fort Zumwalt North defensive end Blake Wilson, and Carthage running back Jess Hettinger.
The two teams that were in last year’s championship game, Battle and Nixa, are still alive and it will be interesting to see if they can meet again. Fort Zumwalt North is the only remaining undefeated team left in the bracket, can they run the table and complete a perfect season? How many road teams will win this weekend? Who will clinch a ticket to the semifinals? All these questions will be answered when the Class 5 Missouri quarterfinals kick off this Friday night.
