Last Friday the playoffs opened in Class 6 play in Missouri with several exciting games including one upset as Blue Springs (6-5) went on the road and took down 24-20 Joplin (7-4). Two of the most exciting games last week was when Fort Zumwalt West (8-3) escaped past Timberland (3-8), 29-26, and Raymore-Peculiar (7-4) defeated the 2014 state runner-up Rockhurst (4-7), 24-21.

Last Friday, there were several great performances put up by teams and players including Lee’s Summit West’s defense having three pick-sixes in the first half against Lee’s Summit North. Blue Springs running back Tresten Spruell had 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns in their upset of Joplin and Raymore-Peculiar quarterback Kory Linaweaver threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns against Rockhurst.

As the playoffs continue this weekend there are some great players on the remaining teams who are working hard to lead their teams to the state championship. These players include Christian Brothers College running back Tre Bryant (Kansas State), Lee’s Summit West offensive lineman Boe Wilson (Nebraska), Lafayette tight end Brendan Scales (Alabama), Kirkwood athlete Jerod Alton (Missouri), Lafayette offensive lineman Chase Behrndt (West Virginia), and Francis Howell defensive end Dirion Hutchins (Bowling Green).

There are also several storylines to watch this week including if Blue Springs South can continue their undefeated season against a tough Jefferson City team? Will any of the undefeated teams lose? Which team can pull off an upset and make a surprising run into the quarterfinals?

There are some interesting games this weekend as the 16 teams battle it out for a spot in the quarterfinals on November 6.
