Missouri pulled off the near impossible on Wednesday, and that was sneaking a top player out of the Natural State. Under Razorbacks’ head coach Sam Pittman, Arkansas has done a great job of keeping in-state kids home for college, but a tip of the hat is deserved to Tigers’ head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and his staff on landing four-star linebacker Brian Huff.
After taking four official visits, on June 25 Huff narrowed down his scholarship opportunities publicly to Arkansas, Missouri, UCF, and UNLV. Huff shared his journey with the Tigers that put them over the top.
“At first it started out slow, we didn’t talk much,” Huff said. “I went on a visit; they offered without seeing me in person, I think they were skeptical. When I visited, they saw my real size. After that, we started talking more. During my second visit, I really had a good time; it has been great ever since.”
Choosing Mizzou was not an easy process for the Valley View High School (Jonesboro) talent.
“It has been hard,” Huff stated. “It has been between all four teams. I was bouncing back and forth. Those four, it was so hard. I really like all those coaches, and I can see myself playing at all those schools. I started leaning towards Missouri after my official; they were my last one.”
Huff spoke about what took place during the paid for visit that separated Missouri from the pack.
“I really liked them coming in, I expected it to be good,” Huff shared. “I chilled with the players a lot. When I was with the players, I asked a lot of questions like is it really true how they are making it seem and is it really that good here? They were saying everything was true. The players said the coaches will tell you straight up if you are doing something right or wrong, and they don’t have favorites, they play the best players at each position.”
The Tigers welcomed Huff to campus for his official on Friday, June 23. Before he left Columbia, Missouri had his verbal pledge.
“I committed on the last night of my visit,” Huff said. “I committed to coach Drink and coach D.J. (Smith – LB); they were the two coaches recruiting me.”
When Huff committed, Missouri’s coaches were not expecting it.
“They were shocked,” Huff shared. “There was a bunch of people around, everyone was shocked. It was a big thing; everyone was running around. I don’t think they expected it.”
Huff talked about his feelings committing to Mizzou, “It was great. I always dreamed of playing college football; I’ve always wanted to do that. Playing at the highest level, playing in the SEC, it is a great feeling. I can’t wait to play.”
