North Carolina State added some offensive line talent from a winning in-state program on Sunday with the commitment of Bryson Speas.
Speas has been a key contributor for Dudley High School helping the Panthers to a 13-2 mark in 2015. The Greensboro area squad kept Hendon Hooker clean in the pocket for 2,234 passing yards with 17 passing touchdowns but also blew open holes in the run game allowing Hooker to amass 1,217 yards on the ground with Class of 2016 talent Connell Young rushing for over 2,400 yards and 27 touchdowns against 4A competition.
The Panthers are off to a 7-0 start ranked as one of the top teams in North Carolina. The top play has brought college recruiters to the yard aiding in Speas receiving offers from Charlotte, East Carolina, Appalachian State, North Carolina Central, Navy, Elon, Marshall, and N.C. State. On June 24, the 6-5, 265 pound, tackle verbally committed to Virginia switching his commitment on Sunday.
Speas posted his commitment on Twitter with a statement:
The Wolfpack had been quiet on the recruiting trail since Aug. 1 when they gained a commitment from D.C. area wide receiver Max Fisher. October is heating up with Speas commitment following wide receiver Emeka Emezie’s pledge on Oct. 2. N.C. State now has 16 verbal commitments highlighted by Florida four-star Antoine Thompson and in-state four-star defensive tackle Grant Gibson.
Rivals ranks the Wolfpack’s 2017 recruiting class No. 36 in the nation while 247Sports has the class at No. 42, tenth best in the ACC.
