On Saturday the Cornhuskers added their eighth commitment to the 2017 recruiting class when Oklahoma defensive tackle Deontre Thomas pledge to Nebraska.
Thomas jumped on recruiting boards during the 2015 season helping Mustang High School to an 8-4 record. The 6’3”, 280 pound, talent was a force up and down the line for the Broncos showing the ability to be an inside and outside pass rusher using is 4.63 speed in the 40-yard dash and the raw strength to take on guards and tackles in run and pass blocking schemes.
The recruiting process between Nebraska and Thomas did not take long. The Cornhuskers offered on April 5, hosted Thomas on April 16, and landed him on April 30. Nebraska won Thomas’ commitment over offers from Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Colorado State, Arkansas State, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
Thomas made his announcement via a local ESPN radio affiliate on his birthday adding an extra point of celebration to the day for all involved.
