The NCAA Transfer Portal has been hot and heavy this offseason with more additions being added daily as the college football season has ended for all but No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Ohio State. Since our last update on the quarterbacks seeking a transfer, five former four-star players have hit the board along with three three-stars. Those that have posted and signed with a new school includes three four-stars and 12 three-star gunslingers.
The two biggest names currently available on the board have a tie that binds back to South Carolina. Class of 2019 QB Ryan Hilisnki took over the starting job with the Gamecocks a year ago replacing a then injured Jake Bentley. At the end of the 2019 season, Bentley transferred to Utah and is now searching for a new team after a season with the Utes. Hilinski was victim of new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo coming in from Colorado State bringing his quarterback, Collin Hill, with him. Head coach Will Muschamp was relieved of his coaching duties in Columbia on Nov. 15, but new head coach Shane Beamer, former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma, is retaining Bobo as offensive coordinator leading to Hilinski’s departure.
As Jake Bentley leaves Utah, the Utes have added former Baylor starting quarterback Charlie Brewer and former Texas backup Ja’Quinden Jackson. Another team making a lot of noise in the transfer portal is Memphis. The Tigers have snagged former Arizona starting quarterback Grant Gunnell and have also added former four-star Peter Parrish from LSU.
The Ole Miss and Mississippi State rosters continue to be reworked in their new head coaches’ images. With the Rebels, head coach Lane Kiffin has let go of four-star Grant Tisdale and three-star Kade Renfro. In Starkville, Mike Leach has watched 2019 starter Garrett Shrader (Syracuse) and Jalen Mayden (San Diego State) find new homes. MSU has been active accepting new quarterbacks with three-star Jack Abraham coming in from Southern Miss and unranked Jack Kristofek signing from Sam Houston State.
Worth noting; a pair of former four-stars, Jacob Sirmon (Central Michigan) and Ethan Garbers (UCLA) have departed the Washington Huskies roster.
