Baton Rouge – The fall from grace by No. 18 Auburn (2-1) out of the AP Top 10 is now at a freefall after No. 13 LSU (2-0) ran over the other Tigers 45-21.
The final score was not truly indicative of the game with LSU building up a 24-0 halftime lead behind All-American candidate running back Leonard Fournette. Fournette took the opening snap handoff 71-yards getting tackled at the 3 yard line setting up a Brandon Harris quarterback keeper for a touchdown. Fournette finished the game with a career-high 228 yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns.
LSU controlled every aspect of the game tallying 485 total yards while shutting down Auburn’s offense to just 260 yards.
The problems for Auburn’s offense continued under center where Jeremy Johnson was 11-of-19 for 100 yards with two passing touchdowns and one interception. Johnson’s first passing touchdown was a 9-yarder to Melvin Ray with 1:48 left in the third pushing the score to 38-14 and his second was to Duke Williams, a 10-yard toss, midway through the fourth for the final score of the game.
On the other side of the ball LSU starting quarterback Brandon Harris was not asked to do too much completing 12-of-17 passes for 74 yards with one score. Harris was the Tigers second leading rusher with eight carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Next week LSU travels to Syracuse to play the Orange while Auburn returns home to host Mississippi State.
