Notre Dame flips Florida safety commitment Spencer Perry
Written by Ryan Wright
On Monday Notre Dame added a big yet undervalued recruit to their 2016 class when head coach Brian Kelly and staff flipped Spencer Perry away from the Florida Gators.
The Fighting Irish hosted the 6’3”, 200 pound, safety on June 19. By June 22 the IMG Academy product had decommitted from Florida with many speculating Perry’s Monday declaration to Notre Dame as a matter of time formality.
Perry’s initial commitment to the Gators was a shock for some being that he originally hails from Auburn, Alabama. Auburn, Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Memphis, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State among many others have all extended offers to Perry.
The signs leading to his potential decommitment may have been apparent back in March. During a previous Recruiting News Guru interview with Perry after his commitment to Florida, when asked about taking visits this summer and he replied, “I still want to see and weigh all of my options. I have not been to Notre Dame, Michigan, Vanderbilt, or Ohio State yet. I want to go to Auburn again. I’m definitely committed to Florida though.”
Notre Dame now has 10 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class.
