Notre Dame officially added St. John Bosco safety D.J. Morgan on Sunday pushing their 2016 haul to 15 recruits.
The pull for the Fighting Irish, one rumored to have happened weeks ago as a silent commit, is a really nice “get” for Notre Dame. Morgan, listed at 6’3”, 200 pounds, has the frame and athleticism to play safety or outside linebacker at the next level. The experience Morgan will bring to South Bend cannot be measured or understated. Morgan is a three-year starter on one of the top teams in the nation over the past three seasons, a team that won a national championship in 2013 and finished as a California semifinalist a year ago.
Morgan was brought into the starting mix late in the season playing in five games tallying 18 tackles. During Bosco’s 2014 season Morgan had a breakout season coming up with 112 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, defended three passes, had two fumble recoveries, forced one fumble, and had a pick. The Bellflower squad is off to a 5-0 start in 2015 and Morgan has shown no signs of letting up on the competition.
The 4-star recruit committed to Arizona State in May but decommitted in July. The Fighting Irish landed Morgan over offers from Utah, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Colorado, and another top choice, Cal.
Notre Dame may have a full-house in the secondary for their 2016 recruiting class with cornerbacks Jalen Elliot and Julian Love along with safeties Spencer Perry and Morgan.
