The meteoric rise of quarterback Ian Book during the offseason hit a high point on Tuesday with an announced commitment to Notre Dame.
The 6’1”, 200 pound, pro-style quarterback led Oak Ridge High School to a 5-5 record in 2014. Book completed 63 percent of his passes hitting 155 of 248 pass attempts coming up with 2,205 passing yards with 18 touchdowns against seven picks.
Throughout the offseason offers started to roll in one after another. Book has double-digit offers with Boise State, Eastern Washington, Harvard, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, and Yale being among his many suitors. By mid-April Book had verbally committed to Washington State.
After a three-day visit to South Bend, Book had a change of heart committing to the Fighting Irish. Offensive coordinator Mike Sanford is credited with bringing Book into the fold having set up a relationship with the El Dorado Hills, California native while at Boise State.
The Fighting Irish now have 14 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. The recruits have pledged from eight different states and from British Columbia. The majority of the early commitments have been on offense with eight slotted to that side of the ball once on campus.
The big recruiting hauls for Notre Dame have been 4-star recruits OT Tommy Kraemer, OT Liam Eichenberg, DE Julian Okwara, WR Chase Claypool, and RB Tony Jones Jr.
