Notre Dame picked up a big piece to their 2017 recruiting class on Friday pulling 4-star offensive tackle Joshua Lugg out of Wexford, Pennsylvania.

Lugg’s 6’6”, 288 pound, frame coupled with his athleticism made him a rising star among college recruiters as a sophomore. The Class of 2017 talent has 14 reported offers on the table after helping North Allegheny High School to an 8-3 record in 2014. Some of the colleges to extend early offers include Michigan State, UCLA, Michigan State, Maryland, Duke, Syracuse, Boston College, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.

Seeing Lugg verbally commit to the Fighting Irish had to be especially difficult for in-state powers Pitt and Penn State after each showed varying amounts of interest before his verbal pledge. Tennessee made an impression on Lugg during “Orange Carpet Day” with his other reported top programs being Pitt and Wisconsin.

The announcement became official when the tackle posted his commitment on Twitter writing, “I am proud to announce that I have committed to the University of Notre Dame! #GoIrish #GloryToGod.”

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and offensive line coach Harry Hiestand received Lugg’s commitment directly over the phone. NDU had hosted Lugg on two separate occasions leading to his connection to South Bend going forward.

The Irish now have three commitments for their 2017 class. Lugg joins offensive tackle Dillan Gibbons and tight end Brock Wright.
