Running down the checklist of all things needed to be a next level impact player, Noah Onyia has it covered. The Class of 2024 prospect has the size (6-6, 220), athleticism, and productivity against tough Georgia competition to prove his worth. The one box left unchecked for Onyia, which position will he play in college.
In Lawrenceville, Mountain View High School is putting all of Onyia’s skills to use highlighting their three-star in the passing attack.
“I am mostly playing at “X” receiver on the outside, but I do bunch in to block in or out during different times during the game,” Onyia stated.
The start to the Bears’ season against 7A competition was outlined by Onyia, “The season started off good, we had a big win in our first week against Shiloh. The next week we played a Top 25 team in Gainesville and last Friday we played Lambert, another top team.
“The season has been good for me; I am getting great looks. My offensive coordinator is putting me in position where I can score. In our last game, I had five touches and a touchdown.”
Holding 13 offers, recruiting is heating up for the tight end/receiver/defensive end.
“Western Kentucky, Charlotte, Memphis, and Troy are in regular contact with me, Texas Tech and Coastal Carolina are showing interest,” Onyia shared.
After summer visits to Kentucky, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech, the Hilltoppers welcomed Onyia to Bowling Green for their season opening win over South Florida (41-24).
“I was just in Kentucky on Saturday to watch Western Kentucky’s first home game,” Onyia said. “It was great. When I first got there, I got to see the area and the town. I got to see how everything goes during the game.
“I spoke with their head coach, coach (Tyson) Helton. He told me what he thinks of me as a player. I got to spend time with my position coach and their running backs coach. I had a great time there with my family.”
The next round of trips will be on the college’s dime.
“I am aiming to get my officials done during the season,” Onyia shared. “I am looking at Western Kentucky, Troy, Kentucky, Charlotte, Georgia Tech, and possibly Texas Tech.”
The back and forth between the Wildcats’ staff and Onyia was covered.
“It is pretty good,” Onyia stated. “My relationship with Coach (Chris) Collins (DB) is good. He reaches out to see how I am doing and to see how my family is doing. He tells me to keep going, and to stay positive through the ups and downs.”
The Yellow Jackets are working the phone line in an effort to keep Onyia in-state for college.
“Our relationship is pretty good,” said. “They talk to me a lot telling me to stay consistent; they are watching me make big plays. They tell me it is a blessing the way I am on the field, the frame that I have, and how I am showing my abilities to play offense or defense.”
The bond with the Trojans in Alabama is strong.
“Our relationship is really good,” Onyia shared. “Their coaches Facetime with me every other week. They show me their facilities, they update me, and they talk to me about their season; it is pretty great.”
As for that spot on the field in college, Onyia is open.
“I really want to play offense,” Onyia stated. “I want to be that stretch out tight end, but I do want to play some defense as well.”
