Terry Lambert’s football career to date has been a whirlwind of activity on the field with accolades galore off it. As a youngster, Lambert earned Bert Cooper All-American, Diamond All-American, and NUC National All-Star honors before taking his craft to the high school level with Hampton. After his sophomore season, Lambert transferred schools and talent classifications going from Arkansas’ 2A to 5A with Magnolia. Exact stats were not kept, but game tape shows the play-making talents traveled, and traveled well.

The change in scenery during the 2017 season allowed Lambert the opportunity to narrow in on a position. During his sophomore year he played quiet literally all over the gridiron with snaps at receiver, defensive back linebacker, kick returner and even at kicker, defensive tackle, and nose guard. The change kept him on offense primarily playing running back. Other changes occurred as well seeing the formerly 5-10, 185 pound, athlete add bulk to his frame now tipping the scales at 200 pounds while keeping his 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash (Arkansas camp).

Interest has come in at one time or another from programs across the country that includes Arkansas, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Mississippi State, Central Florida, Tennessee, and Florida State. Seven offers have been extended thus far, but an opportunity for the three-star to expand his exposure is around the corner with three different national camps and combines set: a Nike Opening Regional, Under Armour, and Adidas-Rivals Three-Stripe Camp.

In a Recruiting News Guru catch-up interview, I sat down with the rising Arkansas talent learning more about his offseason workouts and his recruiting process.

Interview

Terry, you transferred to Magnolia before the 2017 season, how did the new staff utilize your athleticism last season?

“They put me at running back. I was too fast to play quarterback. The coaches wanted to get me out in the open to make plays.”

The move from Hampton to Magnolia was a jump in classification and perceived talent. How do you feel you played against the higher classification last year?

“I think I did pretty good. I did well against the better classification. I think I did pretty dang gone good for moving up several classifications.”

You focused in at running back in 2017, by the end of the season which areas of your game had improved?

“I think I improved my running abilities with my field vision. I trusted my speed more and became more elusive.”

You were tough to stop on special teams as well. How many special teams touchdowns did you score?

“I had three. I had one on punt return and two on kickoffs.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“The main thing I am working on is getting bigger and faster.”

Are you playing 7v7 ball?

“Yes, sir. I’m going to start playing with Coach Chris Speed out of Houston on the Big Player Academy 7v7 team.”

Do you have one set goal that you must accomplish this spring or summer with your workouts?

“I want to get to 230 pounds.”

That’s a big jump. Are you carrying the weight you’ve already gained well? You’re not slowing down are you?

“No, sir. I’m keeping my speed as I’m getting bigger.”

Are you attending any camps or combines this spring or summer?

“I’m attending the Nike Opening Regional (Dallas), Rivals Three-Stripe, Under Armour All-American (Dallas), and an Alabama camp.”

Which schools lately have been showing the most interest in you but have not offered?

“Georgia, Memphis, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.”

How many offers do you have now?

“I have seven offers from Alabama (preferred walk-on), Southern Oregon, Mid-American Nazarene, Avilla, Lindsay Wilson, Hastings, and Carol College.”

Do you have any planned visits for this spring or summer?

“I am going to Alabama on April 21 and I am trying to go to Georgia as well.”

Finishing up back on the field. Is there a play on the field last year that sums up your talents?

“I like my kick return against White Hall.”

Which game was your best last year, and why do you consider that your best?

“The Lakeside game, because I made a lot of people miss in that game. I showed off my speed and agility.”

Is there anything you are doing differently this spring with your offseason preparation to help ensure an even better year on the field in 2018?

“I am working with my personal trainer more this offseason and I am watching more film to learn more about the game.”

Terry, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
